Our Top 5 Quarantine Beers

Hey beer geeks! It's been a really long time since we've made a blog post, so we figured now would be a good time to get back to it. We hope everyone is staying safe out there - we're hanging in over here at Killihump HQ.

If you're anything like us, than you've had plenty of time on your hands... and what else would you want to do but crack open a beer?

In this post, we've compiled a list of our top 5 quarantine beers - which we've paired with our favorite quarantine activity. We've also included fun activity you can do if you're into taking pictures of cool can/label art.

So yeah, without further ado... crack open a beer and check it out...

Our top 5 quarantine beers:

1. New England Brewing Co - Sea Hag IPA 6.2%
https://newenglandbrewing.com
(Woodbridge, CT)
Description: "NEBCO's flagship beer pours in with a citrus, fruity nose and a crisp floral finish that is well balanced with it's Pilsner, Munich, and Crystal malt blend"
Quarantine Pairing: What can we say other than that we love this brew! It has always been our go-to and it's a no-brainer that it's our #1 quarantine brew! It's good when you're hiking or just outside, getting some fresh air... it's good when you're cooking or baking... it's good with meals - (especially tacos)... it's good when you're watching movies... it's also a good shower beer! It's just good at any time! We're so happy and thankful that our local package stores & grocery store have had plenty of this in stock because we drink a lot of it! We highly recommend having this in your fridge to keep you sane in times like these!
Purchased at: Stop & Shop - Groton, CT

2. Beer'd - Midnight Oil Oatmeal Stout 6.2%
https://beerdbrewing.com (Groton, CT)
Description: "Full of roast, caramel, chocolate and coffee flavors. A creamy mouth feel with a dry finish"
Quarantine Pairing: So as you can see by the picture, some times all you want to do while in quarantine is bake, drink beer and eat cookies. Yup, this has definitely been us a lot lately. Who needs milk when you've got this brew!? In addition to being a cookie's best friend... for us, it has also doubled as a great evening brew while watching movies, reading... or on the back deck with the chill of the night setting in, listening to the peep frogs.
Purchased at: The Beer'd Brewing The Silo - Groton, CT

3. Back East - Ice Cream Man NEIPA 6.4%
https://www.backeastbrewing.com (Bloomfield, CT)
Description: "Juicy IPA brewed with Citra"
Quarantine Pairing: This beer is our favorite "quarantine happy hour" beer. Almost every day around 4 pm, if the weather is nice, we head outside for our daily "happy hour" with a few of our next door neighbors - at a distance, of course! We sit out on our front steps or bring out our lawn chairs in front of our apartments and let the sun warm our faces and the fresh air into our lungs. More importantly - we drink beer and chat! This is the beer we often have out there with us! Did I mention, it's now in 16 oz cans!?
Purchased at: Grand Wine & Spirits - Groton, CT

4. Fat Orange Cat - Little Black Cats Black IPA 6.5%
https://fatorangecatbrewco.com  (East Hampton, CT)
Description: "Its the dark and dank version of Baby Kittens IPA"
Quarantine Pairing: Meghan's favorite style of beer is Black IPA - so we went right for this one when we found it in our local packy. Another brew perfect for the back deck in the evening! It's also perfect to pair with your favorite music - we poured this one while listening to some of our favorite vinyl! When the quarantine is over, do make sure to check out Fat Orange Cat's other venue called Dexter's Tunes, Tales & Ales. You can flip through and purchase vinyl, books and beer - and sometimes they even have musicians performing. Can't wait to get back there!! Yeah, this beer goes great with your favorite tunes.. turn it up and drink up!
Purchased at: Grand Wine & Spirits - Groton, CT

5. Fox Farm - Scatter Brown Ale 6.4%
http://www.foxfarmbeer.com (Salem, CT)
Description: "Made with classic British malts and new world hops. Brewed to highlight chocolate malts while maintaining a delicate and drinkable body. Low roast, and creamy foam"
Quarantine Pairing: This brew is absolutely excellent while escaping for adventures in the woods. We took a few with us on one of our last hikes! There is surely something to be said about all that malty-roasty-goodness paired up with the smell of the woods! Definitely one for the senses! If you've also been escaping to the serenity of the woods, we highly recommend you take one of these with you!
Purchased at: Fox Farm Brewery - Salem, CT

Bored? Try this:

Loving all that cool can art? Us too - and we finally figured a good way to take a picture of the whole label without removing it from the can!

How you do it:
  1. You will need a record player or a 'lazy susan' turn table.
  2. Put the can in the center of your record player or lazy susan. If using a record player, you will need to cover the center spindle so you have an even surface to put your can on - we used the 45 adapter. If you don't have an adapter, find something you can put over the spindle like a small bowl with a flat bottom.
  3. Put your smart phone camera setting on panoramic and center the camera with one hand in front of the can.
  4. Move the turn table with your other hand so it turns the can to the start of the label.
  5. Hit your button on the camera to start recording the panoramic - don't move the phone - be as still as you can!
  6. Now with the other hand slowly move the turn table until the entire label is recorded.
  7. It might take you a few tries to get it centered right - it's all about trial and error!
  8. Neat, huh?

Thank you:

We would like to send out a huge thank you to all essential workers out there - health care workers, truck drivers, grocery/pharmacy/retail/package store workers, shipment and postal carriers... we couldn't do this without you. Thank you!

For those of you who are able, please support your local breweries (and restaurants too!) - many are offering online ordering and/or curbside service! They need our support!
