Duvig / Thimble Island / Stony Creek / Haywire

We had another fun filled Sunday driving around and hitting breweries! This time we drove down to Branford, CT and hit up Duvig Brewing - which Chris has been to, but I had not, so I was really excited to check them out!

Cream Ale 4.9%
English Brown 4.8%
Vienna Lager 5%
American Pale 4.8%
IIPA 8.3%

Duvig Brewing is really cool  - and their beers are solid! Chris saw a post on their page that they were releasing their new DIPA so it was a perfect excuse to take a drive. Its tucked away in an industrial park, but really easy to get to off the highway. Cute little tasting/tap room - instantly felt a great vibe - and the woman in the tasting room was absolutely awesome and extremely knowledgeable. We had a great time chatting with her - you can tell she loves what she does!

Being the hop head that he is, Chris went right for a taster of the DIPA, and then soon after ordered a glass. I hadn't tried any of their beers before so I got the flight. Duvig is known for their lower ABV "session" beers, so I believe this 8% DIPA was something pretty new for them. It's super juicy, well balanced and I believe she said among others, had Citra and Galaxy hops. Very flavorful. We both enjoyed it a lot.

I think my favorites were the cream ale, which surprised me - I don't usually care for this style - but there was something so crisp, refreshing and unique about it. It really stood out to me. She said it was one of their best sellers, and I can see why. I could totally see myself enjoying this beer outside this summer.

I also really loved their brown ale. I love darker beers, and browns were one of my first loves when I got into craft beer. This beer was roasty from the malts and had hints of chocolate. It was just a solid brown. Loved it.

We definitely enjoyed Duvig - and will most certainly be back again soon! Do check them out!!

Since we were in the area we decided to stop into Thimble Island and Stony Creek to see what was new. While at Thimble we were told that the last keg of MAD (mutually assured destruction) Russian imperial stout was on and once it was gone, it was gone. So since we had tried many of their beers before, we went for it. Yeah this beer is a 10% and is not for the faint of heart...

We then went over to Stony Creek, which was extremely packed. We noticed one we hadn't yet tried - the Biager Black Lager 5.1% and decided to just share it and be on our way. Just weren't in the mood for the crowds. The beer was exactly what it says it is but I don't tend to always care so much for lagers, so this one was not hitting the spot for me. I am glad I tried it though.

We remembered that Coastal Wine & Spirits was nearby so off we went. This place is huge and has a ridiculous craft beer selection. We found this interesting collaboration brew with Evil Twin Brewing and Lervig Aktiebryggeri Brewery from Norway. It's called Big Ass Money stout and its brewed with PIZZA. Yeah, not kidding. Oh, and we didn't notice it at first but the ABV is 17.5%!!! We haven't yet tried this, but we will. So stay tuned. There will be a whole separate post for this sucker - most likely later this week?

On the way home we stopped at Haywire burger bar in Westbrook - where's there's always good beer on tap. I had a Stubborn Beauty Nummy Nummy IIPA 8.1% and Chris had his go-to New England Seahag IPA 6.2%.

Oh and we figured we may as well document that we were wearing our "sabbath sunday" shirts. Yup, it was a good day.
